João Maia holds a PhD in Contemporary Studies from the University of Coimbra, with a thesis entitled “Transhumanism and post-humanism – political decoding of a contemporary issue”. He is an associate researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Coimbra (CEIS20) and a collaborating researcher at the Center for Humanistic Studies at the University of Minho (CEHUM), in the scientific research project LIHAM – Limiares Humano/Animal/Máquina, coordinated by Professor Cristina Álvares. He is also the author of publications and scientific communications in the areas of theory of history, philosophical anthropology and cultural studies. One of his main focuses of study has been on the relationship between memory, popular culture and history.
